The Voice of the Prairie

"The Voice of the Prairie" by John Olive focuses on the power of storytelling. The play is set in the Southern and Midwestern prairies in the 1920s, just as the radio was starting to make its way into that part of the country. A shy and cautious farmer named Davey Quinn begins telling stories of his incredible boyhood adventures he had with a blind girl named Frankie. Both young Davey and Frankie have something to run from and so they travel together and live their exciting vagabond lifestyles across the country. Adult Davey becomes somewhat famous for his radio stories, until one day, adult Frankie hears Davey on the radio and reenters his life after almost 30 years of separation.
